Our department brings together the technical expertise of the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with the clinical experience of the to create cooperative environment that fosters innovations in medicine and health care.
We offer an accredited undergraduate degree, as well as several different graduate programs.
Students in our program get hand-on experience, preparing them for careers in engineering, medicine and research. Our BS degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org.

We also offer a medical technology and innovation speciation that prepares students for medical careers through a comprehensive coursework and an eight-week clinical immersion.

Students are given the opportunity to explore a range of research before choosing which laboratory they’d like to join at the end of their first second semester.
Learn more about the PhDStudents earning a PhD in biomedical engineering (BME) through the MD/PhD program will begin PhD training in the third year of graduate school after two years of medical school training. The MD/PhD curriculum has been modified to account for courses taken at the medical school.

Clinical Care Meets Bioengineering
This one-year master's degree program allows biomedical engineering students to specialize in medical technology and innovation. This option features an eight-week clinical immersion in the ÌìÃÀÊÓƵ Medical Center. During immersion, students directly observe the clinical settings, preparing them to address clinical needs when developing design solutions.

Hands-On Experience
To immerse our undergraduates in this process of innovation, our year-long senior design program provides an introduction to the medical device design process. They develop prototypes to solve problems presented by local companies, clinicians or researchers. They also learn about the regulatory process, economic constraints and ethical challenges that come with creating new medical technologies.
