Internship VS Co-Op

What’s the difference between an internship and a co-op and how do you know which one is right for you?

Co-Op

A co-op is a six- toeight-monthcommitment where students work full-time at a professional organization doing duties that relate to their major. These positions are typically paid and can only be done during the spring and summer of a student’s junior year. Co-ops cannot be done for credit and must be coordinated with an academic or career advisor.

The department conducts workshops and information sessions each year, as well as provides one-on-one advice when requested. These sessions are designed to provide the students with the knowledge they need to successfully seek out internship opportunities, apply for them effectively, and succeed while performing them. The Greene Center for Career Education and Connections also serves as an important resource for students seeking jobs and internships.
