Curriculum
While enrolled in the NROTC program, a midshipman must maintain a GPA above a 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) each semester. In addition to the required courses for their particular degree, midshipmen must also take the required naval science courses, as well as meet the following requirements:
Navy Option
- Six semester hours of calculus
- Six semester hours of physics (calculus based)
- Six semester hours of English/upper-level writing
- Three semester hours of American history or national security policy
- Three semester hours of world cultural and regional studies
Marine Option
- Six semester hours of English/upper-level writing
- Three semester hours of American history or national security policy

Physical Requirements
Midshipmen are expected to establish individual fitness programs aimed at achieving increasing levels of endurance and general physical conditioning while at NROTC Unit Rochester and throughout their Navy/Marine Corps careers. The effort and initiative shown in this regard is a direct measure of aptitude for service as a commissioned officer. For more information, see the physical requirements page.
Forms Requirement
The (pdf) must be completed every semester by our cross-town midshipmen, which are midshipmen formally matriculated at other schools while enrolled at UR’s NTOTC program. Please complete this form and drop it off at the UR NROTC office or mail to:

Summer Cruise
Midshipmen participate in summer cruises to provide a significant portion of professional training during their four-year curriculum. These summer cruises help aid the students as to which warfare area they will commission into.
